Why track stock by batch
Stock tracked only as a total quantity does not tell you which boxes expire first. Tracked by batch, it lets you use the earliest-expiring batches first and find a batch quickly in a recall.
Fictitious example: an antibiotic has a reorder threshold of 200 boxes. A dispatch brings stock down to 180 boxes: the reorder alert flags that it is time to order, before a stock-out.

- Pharmacists and storekeepers, who track goods in, goods out and expiry dates.
- Directors and managers, who want fewer stock-outs and less waste from expired products.
- Ward managers, who need products available when care is given.
Before you start
- Thresholds remain your decisions: safety stock and reorder points are set by your pharmacist. MediFlow Hospital provides actual consumption to calculate them, then helps enforce them.
